I feel like I always start these things out the same way but I'll go ahead and say it anyway. Damn, it's been a long time since I've written. I'm gonna keep this one short and sweet though since I'll be heading home in a mere 7 days!
This past week has been a busy one with final papers and projects on top of all the regular things classes demand but today was the last day of class and now only two exams lie between me and Kentucky.
This semester has been full of ups and downs. I was homeless for a while (living on my buddy's couch for a month and a half) until I was finally able to move into my current abode. It's cozy, though small, and I like it pretty well. When I was on my friend's couch and out of my routine I got myself into a rut and fell behind in school but I seem to have recovered pretty well towards the end of the semester. I'm expecting to get good grades, maybe even all A's! Money has been tight but you wouldn't believe how resourceful I've become as far as living cheaply goes. I made it through an entire semester on about $2,000 dollars without really working at all (I did a few odd jobs here and there). I don't know how but I did it and I feel a strange sense of pride about it. It's nice to get by only on what you need; makes things a little less complicated. I realize now how easy it is to live simply. Anyway, I should have about $50 when I get home. Woot! Dinner's on me!
It's been a good semester over all though. I've been competing on the Humboldt State logging sports team and kicking ass! I won a couple of competitions and am looking forward to many more next semester. We will be hosting the American Western Forestry Conclave this year, the big one which usually brings in ESPN to cover the 20 or so schools that will be competing, so keep an eye out for that. It's in the beginning of March sometime. Outside of school and logging sports, I've spent most of my time playing music with my buddies and riding my bike, probably my two favorite activities.
Well I said I'd keep it short and sweet. I'll see y'all in a week and I hope you're doing well. Happy holidays!
Can't wait to be in Kentucky,
Jess
